News from the Kilgour Student Council Our Kilgour Student Council has been busy this year collecting and counting all of the Boxtops our Kilgour students have been bringing to school. They are really adding up additional funds for the Kilgour PTA. The students also take time out of their recess to collect all of the paper products to be recycled throughout the building. A big fundraiser and service project the Student Council initiated for this school year is the Cincinnati Zoo Zoodoption. The students in all of the grades have voted on the Cincinnati Zoo animal they wanted to adopt and the winner was the cheetah. The Student Council's goal is to collect at least $1000 to donate to the zoo in support of this endangered animal. Our Kilgour students have already participated in Crazy Hat Day. The Kilgour Student Council already collected over $500 by having students bring in a $1 donation to wear their favorite crazy hats. The Student Council will continue to raise money for the Zoodoption with an upcoming Penny War!

Kilgour Is Going to Music Hall! The Kilgour PTA is very excited to announce that for our 2nd "assembly" the entire school will be going to Music Hall for the Cincinnati Symphony's Young People's Concerts! This experience will be remarkable for our students; one they will never forget. There are two separate programs designed to accommodate primary and intermediate students; so our primary grades will be attending on Tuesday, February 28, and our intermediate grades will be attending on Wednesday, February 29. Please see the following concert descriptions.
Tuesday, February 28, at 10:30am Kindergarten through Third Grade Big, Bad Brass Bash Come meet the instruments of the Brass Family as the CSO "blows their own horns" to put the spotlight on these exciting instruments. This concert, led by Associate Conductor Robert Trevino, features music which will highlight the instruments individually and as a group. Selections include Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, an excerpt from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, a piece with audience participation, and we will even have a young trumpet soloist join the CSO to play a trumpet concerto.
Wednesday, February 29, at 10:30am Fourth through Sixth Grades
Bach to the Future Journey through time with the CSO and Associate Conductor Robert Trevino as we demonstrate how the orchestra has changed, in size and instrumentation, from a small baroque ensemble to the large number of musicians we see on stage today in the 21st century. The program will include excerpts from Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6.
Watch for permission slips in your children's folders. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Amy Devey at

Tips to Avoid Spreading and Catching Contagious Illnesses This month is a good time to share tips for avoiding illnesses with our children. To avoid contagious diseases, please encourage your children to:
- Wash hands frequently and avoid touching the nose, mouth and eyes.
- Use the "cough-and-cover" technique when sneezing or coughing by using the "Dracula" pose (coughing into your sleeve away from others).
- Do not share eating utensils or beverages.
- Eat healthy and get plenty of rest.
- To avoid head lice:
- children and adults should not share hats, scarves, helmets, pillows, brushes, hair accessories and combs. We also encourage children to hang up coats and hats on individual hooks at school.
- Break from sizable gatherings (ie: sleepovers, lock ins, etc) until clear
- Any time there is reportable outbreak of any type of contagious disease, the school will inform families once information has been confirmed.
Friendly School Reminders
- IN Days are called when the temperature is below 32 degrees and/or inclement weather such as snow, sleet, hail or rain. Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately, including hats and gloves. It is best for students to dress in layers if possible, as the classroom/building temperatures vary.
- IN Day Procedures - Arrival and Dismissal
- IN Day - Arrival: Students are to enter the school building through the front doors. On In Days students in grades K-3rd grade wait for their teacher outside of their classroom. Students in grades 4th-6th wait in the cafeteria for teacher pick up.
- IN Day - Dismissal: Students will be escorted to the following locations: Bus riders will assemble in the gym and then load the buses. Walkers will be dismissed as normal. If walkers wait to meet parents to walk and are not picked up after 15 minutes, the students are to report inside the building for pick up. Car riders will assemble in the main hall and wait to be called out to the designated vehicle by staff. Parents/Guardians are to remain in their vehicles for students.
- Students before or after school hours must have Adult Supervision at ALL TIMES when on school grounds/events.
- Early Pick Up - Call by 3pm with changes for dismissal. Calls after this time cannot be confirmed.
- Label coats/jackets, hats, lunchboxes - We've had a huge Lost & Found area. Items unclaimed are donated monthly to local charities.
- Contact number - Long distance numbers: Please be advised that a local number is needed in case of emergency for ALL students. In addition, if your contact information (phone or address) changes, please be sure to update in Powerschool or contact Ms. Law in the office for more information on procedures.
- When students are ill - Call in to report. 363-3001
