COSI on Wheels
January 5-6
The PTA is proud to bring the Columbus Center of Science and Industry to Kilgour. On January 5 and 6, COSI staff will lead a brief morning assembly after which our students will then experience hands on activities, all on the theme of “Exploring Ecology.” The hands-on stations require many parent volunteers to be successful, and we hope you can help.

We ask that volunteers commit to at least a half of a day, but some enjoy it so much they volunteer for the full two days! We feed all of our volunteers a delicious breakfast and Chipotle for lunch.  Volunteers can sign up by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or via our VolunteerSpot page.

Kilgour Carnival Planning Committee
Carnival planning is just around the corner. Our first meeting will be held in January, so keep an eye out for more information on dates and times. Library Update
A BIG thank you for your generous support for the December BOOK FAIR. Our students really love purchasing books and the funds raised will be used to purchase new books (be on the look out, Star War fans!), new book shelves and a portable scanner. Because of your continual support, our library is a comfortable, fun, student-friendly educational environment.

Parents of grades 3 through 6 please make sure to have your student show you FreedomFlix and TrueFlix - an exceptional research tool! If you have any questions or comments please let Mr. O know.

The second week of January is the deadline for the Xavier Reading program. Please list your student's books on the Xavier bookmark (if students have read over the fifteen spaces simply staple a list of additional books on a sheet of paper). DEADLINE TO TURN IN THE BOOKMARKS TO YOUR STUDENT'S HOMEROOM TEACHER IS JANUARY 13, 2016.

Student Council News
Student Council would like to thank everyone who has participated in our events, from School Spirit Dollar Day to Kindness Canes. So far, we have raised over $1,000 to put towards the greater good of the school! The students on council work together to decide what the money goes toward. This year we have a system in place in which the entire student body can give suggestions on how to improve our school, or contribute fun ideas that they have. The Student Body Feedback Committee on Student Council then reviews the suggestions, brings them to meetings for a vote, and then creates proposals for review by Ms. Frank. After gaining approval, the representatives who create the proposals then schedule a meeting with Mrs. Cook-Frazier for approval on moving forward with the idea.

Some of the current proposals that are in progress are having a Father-Daughter dance, fixing bathroom issues, creating "road" signs for visitors in the building, and even installing a Gaga Pit! The representatives on Student Council are working hard to ensure that the student body voices are heard!

Also, in mid-January you will receive information about this year's "To Kilgour, With Love" creative contest! We are looking forward to this project, as well as helping out with "Kilgour's Got Talent!"

Kilgour Kids Care
In January, the 5th grade students will work with the kindergarten students to help raise money and awareness for the Save The Animals Foundation, also known as S.T.A.F. The Save the Animals Foundation is located just down the street at 4011 Red Bank Road. Funded entirely by donations and operated solely by volunteers, this no-kill shelter currently houses over 600 dogs and cats, many of whom have been abused, abandoned or literally tossed away. Teams of volunteers work with the animals two shifts a day, 365 days a year, providing them with a safe and caring environment until they can place them in permanent, loving homes. Over the years, they have matched thousands of lucky animals with equally lucky families.

Last year, some of these amazing volunteers worked hard to create an amazing kid-friendly power point to help raise awareness with the students, and even brought in some of the little, furry lives they have saved to visit the students. Please look for more information to come home in folders upon return from Holiday Break on how we can help this amazing organization. You can also visit their website at: http://staf.org/.
