NEW THIS YEAR – payments can be made online via credit card on our website. Checks made to “Kilgour PTA” or cash are also accepted. Recently, the fee has enabled the teachers to store all iPads in four new carts with new keyboard attachments so our technology can be used more effectively for all students throughout the school. Participate in PTA Reflections!
What is Reflections? The Ohio PTA holds an annual cultural arts program called Reflections. Children in preschool through Grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art based on the year's theme which is "Let Your Imagination Fly!" To take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for our students, Kilgour plans to participate in the program for the first time in our history! Kilgour is looking for student participants to submit artwork for the Visual Arts category for the 2015-16 contest (one of six categories in which schools are eligible) for Grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 levels. Reflect on the theme. Create an original work. Be recognized. Submissions are due on November 6. Mustang Monday - Enriching our Community
Our school community is extremely fortunate to have the enrichment experiences that Kilgour Mustang Mondays provide due to continued Kilgour PTA support! This year, Hispanic Culture will be at the forefront, not only on Mondays, but throughout the week during Music, Art and Gym class. Focusing on Hispanic Culture expands the children’s worldview, exposes them to a different culture and language and provides enrichment by further developing skills learned through the classroom curriculum.

The Cincinnati Spanish Academy will hold Spanish instruction for grades K-3, five Mondays per quarter throughout the year. Students will learn vocabulary and further hone their listening and speaking skills, while developing a relationship with the same instructor on a weekly basis. As we all know, there are numerous benefits of learning a second language on brain development!

Learning about Hispanic Culture extends into the students’ Specials classes. Students will learn about Hispanic artists in Art class, Spanish songs in Music class and popular children’s games and sports in Spanish-speaking cultures in Gym class.

The Cincinnati Symphony is back, establishing life-long relationships with the community and promoting active participation in music. Kindergarten and fourth grade students will learn from the POPS conductor John Morris Russell, while other grades will welcome visits from the Symphony musicians. Students in grades 1-6 will visit historic Music Hall and enjoy the Young People’s Concerts.

Our students will also learn from Visionaries + Voices, an organization with a mission to provide artistic, cultural and professional opportunities for artists with disabilities.  Artists with V + V will present their work and Hispanic Folk Art in this groundbreaking educational program!

In addition to Hispanic Culture, students in grades 4-6 will have weekly Latin class. Students will learn vocabulary, syntax and grammar of the Latin language as well as Greco-Roman mythology and culture.  This gives them a good foundation for the Latin curriculum at Walnut Hills.

The Kilgour community feels very lucky to have your financial support so we can enjoy all of these enrichment experiences!

Updates from Principal Cook Frazier

A new Flag for Kilgour
A brand new American Flag is flying over Kilgour this week! A Kilgour grandparent who is a veteran and former neighbor donated this new flag to our school. Thanks to Ms. Bagayoko, Ms. Allen and Ms. Tillman for taking great care in removing the flag that had become weather worn and replacing it with a beautiful 5 x 8 Star-Spangled Banner. They even held a small flag ceremony.

A teamThe A-Team
The A-Team continues to work together to ensure all the needs and concerns of our learning community are addressed promptly. Our Principal, Mrs. Angela Cook Frazier, Supporting Principal, Ms. Janice Pitts and Assistant Principal, Ms. Kelley Bagayoko are all in our building full time and available to assist you whenever needed. Feel free to contact any member of the Administrative Team with all concerns! Any one of our administrators can assist you, no matter the issue. Together, the A-Team will see to it that the matter is referred to the appropriate party and that your needs are met.

Kilgour Goes Hollywood
Hallmark Films has selected Kilgour as a filming site! The film will be holiday themed, so don't be surprised if you spot a decorated tree or garland hanging in the “Kilgour Studios!” There will be no disruption to instructional time as filming will take place on weekends and outside of school hours. The crew committed to being good neighbors and leaving our school just as they found it. We feel confident that this will be a positive experience for all as several crew members, including the executive producer, are Kilgour alums and parents.
