As early as 1928, our school became known as one of the finest in Cincinnati. We had a school orchestra and baseball team as well as a boys and girls choir and a library (which for some time became a branch of the Cincinnati Public Library).

Fusian RETURNS to Kilgour on Mondays
Kilgour school is fortunate to be one of the few elementary schools in the tri-state area to offer fresh sushi (cooked) for our students at lunch! Last year, Fusian partnered with Kilgour School in providing fresh sushi options to students on Mondays which was named by our Student Council as "Munchie Mondays". This year they are back and offering great fresh and nutritious options for our students! Students may place their order in the morning before school begins or during lunch. Keep in mind this is a "first come, first serve", so be sure to place your order in advance on Mondays! Additional information can be found on the Fusian website or be on the lookout for more information in your child's backpack.

School Spirit Dollar Day: Pajama Day!
Friday, September 25th
To kick off the year, Student Council is offering this first School Spirit Dollar Day for FREE!! Show your fun school spirit by wearing your favorite pajamas this Friday!! Please note that pjs should still follow school dress code. Be on the look out for fun Spirit Fridays the final Friday of every month.

Walnut Hills High School Shadow Registration
Thursday, Oct. 1st
WHHS shadow online registration will be available on their website http://www.walnuthillseagles.com/ on October 1! Be sure to check early on as it fills up very quickly and is limited. Shadowing is by registration only and takes place in November, January and February on every Monday through Thursday on scheduled school days.

Spiritwear Friday Tallies Begin Oct. 2nd!
Make sure your child wears their Kilgour spiritwear or yellow or blue shirts to school on Fridays beginning on October 2. Individual classrooms will compete for a quarterly party! Two winners will be announced quarterly - one in primary and one in intermediate. For questions or to order spiritwear, visit KilgourSports.org. Kilgour Basketball Sign Ups
Deadline extended to Friday, Oct. 2nd
Basketball registrations for boys and girls grades 2nd - 6th are now live via the Kilgour Sports Booster Blue Sombrero site, and the deadline to register has been moved to October 2nd. We apologize for any technical difficulties experienced by those parents who tried to register the week of Sept 9th - 15th.

Participate in PTA Reflections!
What is Reflections? The Ohio PTA holds an annual cultural arts program called Reflections. Children in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art based on the year's theme which is "Let Your Imagination Fly!" To take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for our students, Kilgour would like to participate in the program for the first time in our history! Kilgour is looking for student participants to submit artwork for the Visual Arts category for the 2015-16 contest (one of six categories in which schools are eligible) for grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8 levels. Kilgour Kids Care
This school-wide program partners each grade with a charitable giving activity that they will share with the rest of the school. The classes, Student Council and PTA work cooperatively to give students a personal connection to giving and sharing.

MEAC Canned Food Drive – From now until October 2, support the non-perishable Food Drive for the Madisonville Education and Assistance Center (MEAC), led by our Third and Fourth Grade students. Food pantries are low after the summer months, so please help replenish our neighbor's food pantry. Wish list items include canned meats, fruit and veggies, meals in a can, such as ravioli and chili, pasta and 16 oz. jars of peanut butter. Recycled plastic bags to help clients "shop" the food pantry. Watch our "can-struction" sculpture grow in the front lobby with our Kilgour generosity! Questions? Soda Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House - For the entire year, our Third Grade will support Ronald McDonald House by collecting soda can tabs to raise money. Please send in your tabs for your student to put in the bags in the cafeteria.

Outgrown Spirit Wear and/or Halloween Costumes?

Appearance Plus LogoGive A Buck - Get A Buck -Give A Little Back (GAB) Program
Appearance Plus Cleaners is re-introducing the GIVE A BUCK - GET A BUCK - GIVE A LITTLE BACK (GAB) program to the Kilgour community. When you pick up your dry-cleaning order of $20 or more, ask them to Give-A-Buck to our PTA. Just fill out the $1 GAB voucher and that's it! REMEMBER: The more you GAB – the more Appearance Plus will give back to our PTA.

Labels for Education
For more than 40 years, the Labels for Education program has awarded FREE educational merchandise to schools. You can help Kilgour earn free merchandise such as computers, audio/visual equipment, physical education equipment, reference books or musical instruments simply by collecting Labels for Education participating product UPCs and beverage/sauce caps, and giving them to Kilgour.

Our goal is to collect 10,000 points. It’s easy to pitch in. Visit LabelsForEducation.com for a complete list of participating products and begin saving your UPCs and beverage/sauce caps. Be sure to check out and like the Facebook page to find out about additional ways to earn Labels for Education bonus points.

For every label turned in between now and mid October, Kilgour has a chance towin $10,000! So, start sending in labels and caps with your student's blue folder (K, First and Second Grades) or Tuesday envelope (Third-Sixth Grades). Great Gatherings
Great Gatherings are parties hosted and paid for by Kilgour families and/or teachers. Big parties. Small parties. Parties for couples. For women. For men. For kids. Something for everyone! Anyone wanting to join the parties donates funds to the Kilgour PTA & then attends the party! Let's have fun and raise $$ for our school!

As we begin the second half of 1st quarter, we welcome additional staff to our Kilgour community. Ms. Emilia Oddo joins our school team as the Latin teacher for grades 4th-6th; Barb Culbertson joins our 5th grade team as our new Science and Social Studies teacher; and Ravine Hubbard will join our 3rd grade team working with students and staff in Ms. Bronner's and Mrs. Kroger's room. We have also added the following paraprofessionals - Liz Zachary, Inez Barnes, and Mary Miller. We are excited to welcome these new members to the school community as well as have the additional supports for our students and staff. Please extend your warmest welcome and plan to meet our new staff during our Open House night on Sept. 29th from 5-7pm. In addition to the classrooms being open, we will have various school programs, partners, and more on hand for you to sign up, receive information and/or use as a resource. We hope you will join us!

In continuation to our school year, as well as preparation for Open House 2015, a Hopes and Dreams cloud is being sent home with all students this week to be completed and returned by Friday, Sept. 25th. Kilgour has implemented the Responsive Classroom model for 20 years or more and a critical part of the program is to confirm your hopes and dreams for the year. We are asking every parent/guardian/household to complete a Hopes and Dreams cloud. We ask that you write down your hopes and/or dreams for the year for your student. The clouds will be on display throughout the school building, either on grade level bulletin boards or other designated locations. Let's fill our building literally and physically, with positive thoughts and words. Please complete your cloud and return to your child's teacher.

The 2015-2016 school year has already begun with new staff, new students, and new program offerings. Yet we don't want you to forget about the returning programs that are key to our school community. We are happy to have the return of Mustang Mondays - now with an expansion of services for Spanish; Fusian restaurant, providing a fresh lunch alternative to students/staff; water bottle filling station (located outside the cafeteria); Latin - now being offered to 4th grade this year; Suzuki musical training - ready for new enrollees; iGineering (STEM) program and more. More information about these programs are forthcoming in future communications. We thank you in advance for your support of our new and old programs. I also welcome your ideas for new initiatives.

Speaking of new...Kilgour is being considered to be the location for an upcoming Hallmark Hall of Fame special movie!!!!! Stay tuned for the final decision!

Technology Fees: Due on October 16th
The back-to-school season can seem like an expensive time with multiple fees due to several different Kilgour groups. The “Budgeting Your Student Fees” flyer was recently distributed to students to help give an explanation of the fees and help families keep track. Forms to submit the CPS Student Fees and First in Math (for grades K-2) were also sent home in recent weeks. If you’ve already paid some of these fees, thank you for helping us get off to a great start of the school year!

To help support the PTA’s efforts to maintain up-to-date technology at Kilgour, the annual PTA Technology Fee of $25 per student is due on Friday, October 16th. NEW THIS YEAR – Payments can be made online via credit card on our website. Checks made to “Kilgour PTA” or cash are also accepted. Recently, the fee has enabled the teachers to store all iPads in 4 new carts with new keyboard attachments so our technology can be used more effectively for all students throughout the school. It has also helped replace computers and other classroom technology tools. To continue to provide our children with technology advantages every day, please help us by submitting your fee. The Kilgour PTA Board is in need of a parent volunteer to serve as the PTA Auditor.   • Prepare tax filings for PTA

    • File Form 990 (due December 15)
    • Enter financial information and coordinate payment with Ohio Attorney General
    • File Forms 1099 for payments to individuals in amounts of $600 or more (sent to individuals by January 31 each year and must be filed with the IRS by February 28)
  • Support and verify financial information

    • Support Treasurer as needed with regard to fundraising activities
    • Review financial information and checking account activity
    • Assistance in developing budgets or other financial management as needed

  • Coordinate printing with vendor
  • Organize yearbook sales in April and school distribution in May

Calling All Parent Volunteers!
Aubrey Backscheider, who is the iPad coordinator at Kilgour, is looking for parents to help keep our equipment up to date. Plan to spend 1-2 hours of time that is convenient for you where you'll be running software updates on a cart of 30 iPads. No software experience necessary. Aubrey will be there to walk you through the process and help answer any questions. If this is something you are willing to try, please sign up for a slot.
