Principal Message
It is great to see all the smiling faces of students, parents and staff. Thanks to everyone for your support in the arrival of my latest bundle of joy in May and your support as I transition in for the current school year. Ms. Pitts will continue to be onsite to assist and support our school community and myself as our Support Principal. If there are questions or assistance needed, please feel free to contact either of us via the main office.

The 2014-2015 school year will bring its own positives and we look forward to a great year. A few items to look forward to this year.... MAGIS program, Suzuki, Kilgour Kids Care initiatives, new partnership with Child Focus, and much more! Stay tuned for details.

In upcoming Synopsis editions, you will get an opportunity to meet our newest school staff members! We are excited to have them join our team and look forward to great additions they bring with them.

With the opening of school, there are tons of paperwork to fill out, getting to know current teachers/staff, and review of school procedures. To help our school year be successful, please be sure to review the Student/Parent Handbook by Sept. 30th. In addition, keep in mind the following:

  • Arrival/Dismissal - Students are not permitted to enter the school building or the playground until 9am unless they are a part of our before school program with CRC. Also, students should be dismissed and confirmed for a dismissal location prior to the end of the day. Students are not to remain on school premises beyond 4:15pm unless a part of the CRC after school program. If your student is a car rider - please be sure that he/she is dropped off and picked up on the school side, NOT ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE.
  • Drills - Several drills will take place throughout the school year. Drills such as Fire, Lockdown, and Tornado. Procedures will be shared with students along with the purpose for such drills. We ask for your support while we prepare our students accordingly.
  • Cafeteria - Breakfast is FREE FOR ALL CPS students. Parents may also pay for lunch in advance. Check with your child's teacher or main office for more information. There are also new menu items for breakfast and lunch as well as new additions coming this school year including sushi! Stay tuned!

Kilgour Kids Care: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
This year Kilgour will have a school wide program to connect the grade levels called Kilgour Kids Care. Each month a different grade level will be partnering with a community organization to build awareness and organize an activity to collect resources for their organization. To kick the year off we are going to have a school wide activity to benefit the ALS Association of Central and Southern Ohio which is located right here in Cincinnati. We will be participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge. Many of our staff members have volunteered to have a bucket of Ice dumped on their head if $100 is donated to their bucket. Students can donate their loose change... or more if there is a staff member they really want to see get wet!

We are currently collecting donations and will do so until Friday, September 26th. We will have an all school assembly on the 26th at the end of the day to see the ice buckets dumped on our staff members! Get to Know Our New Kilgour Staff

Yolanda Robinson: Front Office Support Staff
"I am originally from Chicago, IL but my mother moved here with my sister and me when I was 3 or 4 years old. So I consider myself to be a Cincinnatian. I went to Colerain High School and then Xavier University to study medicine. I quickly realized I did not want to be a doctor and go to school for 50 years so I changed my major to Psychology with a Criminal Justice minor. The plan was to be a Forensic Specialist for the FBI. After completing 2 years at XU, I commenced to working every job under the sun. Everything from retail management to merchant banking, from customer service to being a flight attendant. I have also worked in Research & Development for P&G after my senior year of high school. (I actually helped create a product that is currently on stores shelves so I'm really proud of that.) I have since gone to art school and studied fashion design/merchandising, as well as attending cosmetology school studying esthiology. I am a trained makeup artist so I've also worked for a local modeling agency. In addition, I am newly married and a new mommy to a 10 month old daughter named Nina Kyle (who is the cutest thing ever.. seriously.) This is my first experience in the school system and, so far everything has been wonderful. I look forward to a long career here and continuing to learn and grow. Thank you all so much for making this so special for me!"

Kristen Zhukov: First Grade Teacher
"My name is Kristen Zhukov. I graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minor in Special Education. After graduating I taught as a pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten teacher. I also had the opportunity to work with children of all ages and their families as an Assistant Director of an Early Learning Childhood Center. Realizing my love for the classroom, I decided to pursue my Masters in Education at Mount St. Joseph. I also completed my Reading Endorsement and found a true passion for Reading and Writing.Through the MSJ graduate program I was placed at Kilgour, working with the first grade team. I am so blessed to be back at Kilgour, working with the staff, students and families of the community."

Spirit Wear Fridays
Please have your student wear KILGOUR SPIRIT WEAR every Friday. Counts will be taken each Friday of the number of children in each class that are participating. Each quarter, the Primary and Intermediate classes with the greatest percentage of Spirit participants will win a class party thanks to support of the Sports Boosters. Any and all effort is encouraged. If the students are making an effort, it counts!

To that end, we ask that you consider DONATING your gently used Kilgour Spirit Wear or Kilgour Inspired Wear that we can pass along to any children that may like to participate. Please bring these items to school and place in the bin marked SPIRIT WEAR to the right of the office door. Soccer Team Photos for Kilgour Yearbook: Update
To optimize the soccer team photos, we have decided to take the yearbook picture at the actual games. This will ensure that the entire team is present and everyone is wearing their uniforms (so no pictures this week during practice). Each team will be notified at least 3-4 days in advance of their scheduled photo date/time. We will try to find dates where two Kilgour teams play back-to-back so one photo will occur after the game and the other will occur before the game. Look for an email from your coach with the scheduled date/time. NEW THIS YEAR – As a fundraiser, our 6th grade class will sell the soccer team photo (5x7 or 8x10) and individual soccer photos (if interested) at a nominal price. Please note that ALL proceeds will go to the 6th grade class to offset the cost of their yearbooks. Please look for an order form on the day of your child's soccer team photo. There's no obligation to buy. If you have questions, please contact Liz Koch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Kilgour Halloween Costume Shop
We are starting preparations for our costume shop. This provides students without costumes a chance to shop our store for a costume they can wear for school Halloween activities and take home for Trick or Treating. If you have any costumes that you could donate, please bring them to school and place in the bin for COSTUMES in the hall to the right of the office door.
