Do You Dare . . .
to try the sixth grade gelato flavor, Triple Chocolate Dare? If you had this treat, created in conjunction with Madisano’s Gelato, at the Kilgour Carnival, you know it's good. Look for it this summer at the Hyde Park Remke Market. One dollar from every sale will be donated back to Kilgour. Note, if you have a peanut allergy in your family, this gelato is a nut-free treat.

This Summer at Kilgour . . .
you might see a lot of activity at Kilgour this summer and wonder what's happening!

CISV (Children's International Summer Villages) is hosting an international Village from June 21 until July 18. We are a global community of dedicated volunteers, creating opportunities for all ages to experience the excitement and enrichment of cultural diversity through our educational programs. We are founded on our belief that peace is possible through friendship - and that the real difference can be made by starting with children. CISV educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world.

The campers are 11 years old and there are four from an individual country, traveling with an adult leader. We have six local staff, one of which attended Kilgour (Charli Philpott is our Director), one staff from the Chicago area and one from Bogata, Colombia. We have lots of volunteers whose children have traveled with CISV, attending programs all over the world (many Kilgour students have enjoyed this opportunity).

So you will see kids playing on the playground and running on the soccer field, having a great time. Please feel free to continue to use the playground as you always have – just be aware that many of these children do not speak English and will be very busy in their activities, so please don't be offended if they don't speak to you.

Volunteers Needed for CISV
Dedicated volunteers run our programs and we have lots of volunteer opportunities. This document contains descriptions of what is needed and how you and your family can become involved! Take a moment and consider volunteering. Working with this international community is an experience you will never forget. Recess in the Stadium: June 7
The Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, the Cincinnati Bengals and the American Heart Association are inviting CPS students and their families to sign up at www.heart.org/recess2014 or contact Pam Schramm at 513-842-8873 for Recess in the Stadium reservations. See the Recess in the Stadium invite here.

This free family friendly event with educational and interactive booths promoting a heart healthy lifestyle for the children and their families will be held on June 7 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Paul Brown Stadium. We will have a 40 yard dash, a healthy fun wheel, nutrition stations, obstacle course and CPR training. Participants will also get the opportunity to touch and feel a cow's heart to learn how it works. We greatly appreciate your support of this worthy cause.

Order Your 2013-2014 Kilgour Yearbook
It’s time to order your 2013-2014 Kilgour yearbook! We’re trying something new this year so that we can include end-of-year activities, such as the Kilgour Carnival, 5K Run, Moving On Ceremony, Spring Choir and Final Acting Play in the yearbook. For those returning to Kilgour, the yearbook will be distributed in late August at the back-to-school ice cream social or sent home with your student after school starts if you can’t attend the social. For those not returning to Kilgour, such as 6th graders with no younger Kilgour siblings, the PTA will mail your yearbook directly to you in late August at no additional charge. Please complete this form in its entirety (even if you plan to attend Kilgour next year). Return the form to school in an envelope marked: “PTA – YEARBOOK”. Cost: $16/yearbook with checks made payable to Kilgour PTA. Optional: Add $4 postage/yearbook for mailing if you cannot pick up the yearbook in August.

A note about photos: We always appreciate photos but do not really need extra candid photos unless you have them of a particular event such as COSI, a class field trip or Mr. Bell’s Sock Day. Please be selective and pick your best three-four photos per event and email them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., with a brief description of the event and grade. Group photos are preferred.

Congratulations Kilgour PTA Scholarship Recipient
Congratulations to Olivia Logsdon, Kilgour Class of 2008, who received the $1,000 Kilour PTA Scholarship. Olivia will be majoring in Neuroscience and Pre Nursing at the University of Cincinnati in the fall.

In her essay on how Kilgour impacted her, Olivia discussed how she felt Kilgour gave her a place where she felt both safe and accepted, which inspired her desire to achieve a college education.
