KILGOUR ELEMENTARY PTA BOARD MEETING

Minutes

June 9, 2010


Present: Lori Raser, Jenny Workum, Angela Cook, Velda Coley, Tracy Johnson, John Allenson, Dave Shirey, Dena Hipskind, Jules Hemsky, Lynn Vainrib, Peggy Groeber, Judy Neff, Lori Ware, Mark Severin, Barbara Culbertson, Jane Dolan, Marcy Prebeg, Nikki Kingery, Diane Brueggemann


  1. Meeting Opening – A motion was made to open the meeting (Motion – Marcy Prebeg, Second – Peggy Groeber).

    1. Thanks to Jenny Workum for opening her home to us tonight!

    2. Thank you notes from teachers and students to the PTA were passed around for review.


  1. Recording Secretary – Diane Brueggemann for Laura Deck

    1. Approval of May minutes (Motion – Judy Neff, Second – Lori Ware).


  1. Kilgour Sports Boosters – Davith Adams (not present)


  1. Treasurer’s Report – Lori Ware

    1. Reported that there are still outstanding money transactions for carnival and the split between PTA and Sports Boosters is not complete.

    2. Budget was distributed. Motion was made to approve (Motion – Mark Severin, Second – Jane Dolan).


  1. Principal’s Report – Angela Cook

    1. Welcomed Tracy Johnson as the intermediate teacher representative to PTA. Terry Armstrong will continue as primary teacher representative.

    2. Norma Gagnon has been hired as Intervention Specialist. Mrs. Wheeler is transferring but position has not been filled.

    3. Passed out Hershey kisses and thanked the PTA for all the work, commitment, time, support, participation, assistance, treats/goodies, and more throughout the year.

    4. Presented Lori Raser with the “Rock Star” award for all her hard work as PTA President.

    5. Class lists will be posted on August 13th after 3:30 pm. Enrollments are still coming in.

    6. There will be no Kindergarten transition days.

    7. Kindergarten play groups are in progress on Fridays 10am – 11am in the Kindergarten play area.

    8. 2010-2011 district calendar has been approved.

    9. June 1st to June 25th Summer School Session at Riverview East.

    10. July 12th to July 30th School building and office closed for Summer break and cleaning.

    11. August 2nd School building and office opens for the 2010-11 school year.

    12. August 18th First Day of school for 2010-2011.


  1. Teachers’ Report – Terry Armstrong and Tracy Johnson

    1. Tracy Johnson thanked the PTA for everything that was done this year.


  1. New Business

    1. PTA is purchasing 25 new Apple computers this month and having them installed with $25,000 received in grants. There will also be a $25 technology fee on all class lists to help support future computer replacements.

    2. Introduction of New PTA Board Slate – Motion to accept made by Lori Ware, Second – Lynn Vainrib, vote passed). There are still open positions for Carnival Volunteer Coordinator, Carnival Rides and Games Coordinator, and Skating Coordinator.

  1. Board Members’ Update

    1. President – Lori Raser

      1. $10,000 grant from The Thomas J. Emery Memorial. We will add this to our technology fund along with the $5000 grant from Marge & Charles Schott Foundation and the $10,000 grant from the Andrew Jergens Foundation. This is the grant money being used for the 25 Apple Computers.


    1. President –Elect – Jenny Workum

      1. If you have any input on next year’s budget please contact Jenny.

      2. Carnival money was down this year.

      3. Suggestion was made to have grade level parties in the fall which would be beneficial for new families and raise money.


    1. First Vice Presidents – Room Parents – Jen Rodes & Jane Dolan (no report)


    1. Second Vice Presidents – Programs – Kristen Bickel and Dave Shirey

      1. Silent Auction scheduled for November 19th.


    1. Third Vice Presidents – Carnival – Aimee Bashor, Denise Beauchamp, & Ingrid Jones

      1. Marcy Prebeg reported that there are still open positions for next year’s carnival. Reported that food money was up for carnival and parties, sponsors, and raffle were down.

    1. Fundraising Chair – Dena Hipskind

      1. Lori Ware reported that there will be a big push for boxtops at the beginning of school with incentives offered for collections.

      2. Mark Severin reported that last year 1.5 times per week there was an appeal for money from Kilgour.

      3. Judy Neff suggested the Capri Sun fundraising which yields 2 cents per item. This requires someone at school to coordinate rinsing, boxing, and sending the pouches.

      4. Campbell’s soup labels are a lot of work for the return.

      5. Mark Severin with revisit Kroger cards as a fundraiser.

      6. Velda Coley reported that she has a fundraising opportunity and can provide information.


    1. Sponsorship – Mark Severin

      1. Wants to concentrate on splitting sponsorship of events.


    1. Inside/Outside Enrichment – Diane Brueggemann & Peggy Groeber. (no report)


    1. Corresponding Secretary – Judy Neff

      1. Sent flowers to grant writer on birth of baby.


    1. Public Relations – Beth Schenk (not present)

      1. If anyone has pictures or information for publication please get it to Beth as soon as possible.


    1. Auditor – Dave Carnes (not present)


    1. Buildings and Grounds – Jules Hemsky

      1. Requested help with buildings and grounds as this responsibility has increased due to CPS changes.

      2. Reported that CPS is no longer responsible for any landscaping/mowing. It is now the responsibility of the plant operator.

      3. Mark Severin suggested trying to get area landscapers to help in exchange for advertising.


    1. Membership – Lynn Vainrib, Olga Davies, & Nikki Kingery (no report)


    1. Technology – Steve Wetzel, Beata Heekin, & Dan Marshall (not present)


    1. LSDMC (no report)


  1. Closing

    1. Thanks to Peggy Groeber for her years of service to PTA! Her insight was valued as a parent and also a CPS teacher.

    2. Thanks to all for a great 2009/10 school year!
